Molyvos School of Fine Arts
Molyvos has a developed intellectual and artistic tradition, which occurs in the operation of a gallery, exhibiting paintings of local and foreign artists, the operation of the conference center (former mosque) where in addition to the conferences there are lectures and works of writers presented, the designated space in the castle, where organized music concerts and singing and simple theatrical plays are performed and of course the operation of the School of Fine Arts.
The School of Fine Arts at Molyvos operates for some decades. During the summer months students of the School of Athens and other parts of Greece come, even foreigners who under the guidance of professor, are engaged in painting.
The School is housed in a beautiful and very interesting architecturally house, both for its external appearance as well as it’s internal layout. It is one of the traditional houses of the early 19th century, the mansion of Komninakis Krallis. As it was customary at that time, the reception area was located on the second floor and was decorated, both walls and ceilings, with very interesting performances and decorations, painted by folk artists of the era.
The visit to the School of fine Arts is very interesting as it presents the social and economic life of Molyvos in the early 19th century, at least of the wealthy and prominent part of the population.
Writen by Stratis Krallis, who lived in the Mansion during his childhood.
