Aegean Regatta 2003
The Aegean Regatta 2003 needs no recommendation. It has shown her credentials for the past two years and it is rightfully considered internationally speaking a high level offshore sailing event. This year the Aegean Regatta returned to its birthplace. The start was given at Myrina on Limnos on the 2nd of August. Then it sailed northward stopping at Samothraki, then south to Molyvos and it finished in Mytilini on Lesbos on the 9th of August. There have been very few opportunities for the racing sailor to visit this part of Greece, as it is far way from the center of the sailing activities in Athens. The Aegean Regatta 2003 offered a unique possibility for sailors of all levels, from Club Racing to Grand Prix, to get acquainted and enjoy some of the most beautiful Greek islands by participating in a very prestigious sailing event for both IMS and ORC boats conducted under the auspices of the Hellenic Offshore Committee. The Aegean Regatta is not simply a sporting event; it is a cultural one as well. The organisers, the fans that followed the races and the competitors themselves had the opportunity to enrich their stay on these beautiful islands with a wide variety of activities, from visits to major historical and archaeological sites to top artistic events with a local flavor and guests from Greece and abroad. The Aegean Regatta 2003, in short, was an open invitation for people to have fun in the Aegean.
