Kayia Beach at Skala Sykaminia

Kayia beach - Skala Sykaminia

Kayia beach – Skala Sykaminia

Kayia beach is one of the best beaches in the island. It is on the other side of Skala Sykaminia village and can be accessed either by car, if you take a right turn right before you enter the village coming from Sykamia or by following a rocky donkey path which starts after the end of the picturesque harbor.

Kayia is a beach with reddish pebbles on the shore and sandy seabed. On the absence of wind the color of the water is very attractive and clear crystal.

There are plenty of trees (armyrikia that grow on salty waters) that create natural shadow. The last 15 years there are three fish taverns operating during the touristic period near the beach. They have direct access to the beach and offer nice food (local appetizers, fish) and view to the sea.

For those who stay in Molyvos there is a travel agency at the Hotel Seahorse in the Harbour of Molyvos that offers excursions on their boat to Skala Sikaminias and Kayia. The departure is in the morning and return in the evening. Tourists can have a 45 minute boat trip, reach Skala Sykamia, swim at kayia and enjoy lunch either at the village (in the picturesque harbor) or near kayia beach. We highly recommend this daily excursion to Skala Sykaminia preferably not on Sundays because locals crowd the area.

    • Greek Christmas Traditions December 26, 2016
Greece has many lovely and unique Christmas traditions, and the holiday here is not yet quite as commercialized as you will see elsewhere. During the day on Christmas Eve, children go from house to house singing kalanda (Greek carols) and playing the trigono (triangle), for which they are rewarded with sweets and pocket money. Families […]

    • Liz Stolls February 16, 2015
Liz Stolls moved to this idyllic Greek island of Lesvos to marry a Greek farmer. Some say I was brave, some say foolhardy. We started a successful horse and donkey trekking business, built a house, had two daughters – but split up after 12 years. I’m still living here and in Berlin, writing and teaching English. […]
